Kung-fu lessons at home

without comments

Just try to drop  medicines three times per a day into a cat’s aching ear, and you’ll see what I mean. The first visible effect of the medication is that the cat is disappearing somehow when there’s something in my hand.

Benji

without comments

Last week somebody put some pictures to the British Shepherd Rescue forum, and asked: ‘what do you think, could this dog be a bearded collie? It’s living by a house on a chain,  but nobody cares him, looks terrible’.

Of course everybody would to help, some people offered that they would to go for the dog with some strong and scary-looking friends, call the police, etc.  Fortunately they gave me a chance to talk the owner and ask for the dog – you know, I’m a social worker, so I have a tendency to trust even the strangest people. This time I was right. After 10 minutes the owner (an old woman) told me everything about the dog. Her granddaughter brought it 3 years ago, but the dog is totally useless: is too friendly for protecting the house, eats too much and is ugly. So she would to put the dog asleep. I offered that I could take the dog with me, and she said: ‘OK, but take it NOW’. So I found myself with the dirtiest dog of the world in my car. Monday evening 8 o’clock, the best time for find a place for a fuzzy and stinky creature which spent all of his life on a chain. Some quick phone calls: there is a place for the dog by a vet for some days, but not in this statement. Some other calls: there is somebody who could groom the dog, but she needs help. OK, I’ll spend the evening there and help her, no problem.

Benji (as his owner called him)  was amazing, I could do anything with him, was calm in the car and during the whole grooming procedure. Two and a half hours later we found a very happy and friendly dog under the stinky and sticky coat:

In spite of everything Benji thinks that the whole world is his friend. He is looking for a new owner now, and I’m sure that somebody will be very happy with this great dog.

Ten plagues?

without comments

I started to think that there is something about them. First was the volcano in April that blocked most of the European flights for weeks. The next one was the month-lasting rain and storm in May. After that came the flood all over Central Europe. Now the rivers are slowly returning to their beds, and here is the next one.  Mosquitos.  You can’t spend the evenings outside because the air is buzzing. Last night I was sitting in my bed and watching a gnat-council next to the electric insect controller. Maybe we should buy some geckos, but I’m afraid that they will have overweight problems very soon.

If  I’m not mistaken about the plagues the next step will be that all of  our camels will be dead in a few weeks.

A busy weekend

without comments

There is a Hungarian proverb that says: if you are bitten by a dog, heal it with it’s hair. So the best wellness program after a whole-week-long event was a weekend with a demo and a competition. On Saturday we were at a program called ‘Day of dog owners’. It’s a big event with many celebrities and demos for kids. I usually accept invitations for these programs, because there is a chance to show people something about our training methods, and  it’s good for the dogs also, they learn how to work in big crowd and noise.  As you see, for Moss doesn’t matter where she is, if she has a disc:

On Sunday there was a dog-dancing competition. I was getting tired, so entered ’just’ with three dogs. It was so much fun, although I wasn’t in my best form (f.i. had no voice , so I became a real dog whisperer). At the end Moss get a 3rd place in Class2.

Water, wind and wagging tails

Well, finally we survived our Disc Dog Week. I had fears because of the nice amount of catastophy that happened in previous weeks.  Clouds of volcanic ash, rain and storm for two weeks, flood all over the country… I don’t know how is it possible, but everything stopped for a week, and continued as we finished the official program on Sunday.  The whole thing was far from perfect, but I think it was the best in these circumstances.

First of all: it was a great pleasure all of us to meet Yukihiro Sekiguchi in Hungary. It was his first trip to Europe, and he was our first disc-dogger visitor from Japan.  He was  simply amazing:  opened to everything new,  and never lost his sense of humor and patience. I hope it wasn’t his last visit here, we need a Hiro J

To tell the truth this competition was a real challenge for our poor judges.  Just ask Jeff how nice is the airport of Milan or ask Hiro how was the sightseeing early in the morning while he tried to find a TV-studio… ask and run before it’s too late J  And it was a challenge for me too ,  so my decision is that I’m on holiday from now on, no more organizer work for this year – I would to compete and have fun with my friends, and sometimes to help them in some things, but not to do everything by myself.  If you see me during the summer with scoresheets and tables, feel  free to shoot me.

We’ve had three clinic and a competition during five days,  so it’s hard to remember everything (and when I asked for help,  Dalma wasn’t the best choice as a chronicler :  ‘write that Lily – her dog – was sooo beautiful as she ran through the field’  Thx…). But there were  great moments , thank you everybody, it was nice to see you all again!

If you have no idea what to do…

…listen to the chief judge…

… and be sure that everybody get the idea :)

A brand new haircut especially for this event:

well…

Our very first competitor in Youth division (she and her dog are in the same weight):
